Welcome to My Learning Portfolio!
About Me
Hi! My name is Ashley Lengel. I am about to graduate with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. Post-grad, I'm set to attend Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX for Physician Assistant training, and I couldn't be more excited!!
I was born on September 24, 1995 in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. I have lived in Hinckley, Ohio for my entire life, and I can honestly say that I wouldn't have rather lived anywhere else! (Well, if you made me a good enough offer, maybe I'd consider.) I am an only child, but I do have over 20 cousins, ranging from 13 to 33 years of age. I pretty much consider them my siblings.
Let me just say this: I'm a total band nerd. But I say that with total pride. I played flute in my high school marching band (The Pride of Highland Marching Band) for all four years. When I came to UC, I knew that I needed to keep that passion alive, so I became a member of the University of Cincinnati Bearcat Bands (I now play French horn rather than flute. Five new years here, why not learn something new?). Being a member of the Bearcat Bands is what made my transition to college easy and my freshman year as a whole incredible. Before the school year even started, I knew my way around campus, had a great group of friends, and had developed a sense of discipline. By the end of my freshman year (all because of band) I found myself an active member of Tau Beta Sigma (national honorary band service sorority), band council Secretary-Treasurer, and the Associate Drum Major. Since then, I've been able to serve as Head Drum Major and served two terms as President of my sorority.
I decided to study BME because I had a goal to conduct medical research in a hospital or university, but I just recently declared a pre-med track, as well. My latest goal is to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant, hopefully specifically to work in neurosurgical assisting. Something interesting to note about me is that I am a survivor of Chiari Malformation. Chiari Malformation is a condition that I struggled with for a last year and a half. I had the surgery (which was an incredible success!) on June 2nd, 2016 and since then, I've gotten my life back! I am so glad that I was able to go through that experience, and I'm feeling better than ever!
During my time at the University of Cincinnati, I will continue to work towards becoming a truly well-rounded person: striving in academics, taking leadership roles in campus organizations, and also making great connections with other students in the UC community.
